Young Learners/Dancing Bear in the News!

Big things are happening over here at YLG. First, today’s issue of Mizzou’s student newspaper has an article about the Dancing Bear, peppered with colorful contributions from yours truly. This is the first press my comics have gotten so it’s kind of exciting. Sure, my press coverage currently extends solely to the campus of the University of Missouri, but it hadn’t really occurred to me that passing my scribblings out at the coffee shop would be considered article-worthy by anyone, so I’m feeling good about it. Check it out.

In other news, I just got back from a long trip to Colorado today and I’m super eager to get back to drawing. I’ve got some new bonus comics in the works and I’ve been thinking about ways to expand the site and start including more material. Things are heating up!

Dancing Bear News

Hi everybody. I’m in Colorado Springs right now coaching/judging a bunch of college debaters at a national tournament, so the next issue of the Dancing Bear is going to be postponed. Issue 3 will be available online and in downtown Columbia promptly next Thursday. I’m about halfway done with it and haven’t decided on the cover art yet. I’m thinking “Bearabian Nights”, but I’m open to suggestions if you’ve got any (“Red Bearon” is also in the running).

ALSO, I recently did an email interview about the Dancing Bear with the Maneater (Mizzou’s student newspaper, for non-Columbians). I don’t know when it’s being run yet, but if you go to MU keep an eye out. Apparently my responses were fairly entertaining.

Hello, my name is Scott and this is my comic strip. I live in Columbia, Missouri where I sell coffee and eat a lot of sandwiches. I’m very excited to welcome you (yes, you specifically) as I venture out into the world of cartooning. I think it’s going to be a pretty good time for all of us, and I packed a bag lunch so I hope you’ll at least stay long enough to eat.

As it stands the site is very much under construction and I plan to be making regular changes and improvements over the coming weeks and months, but I wanted to get the ball rolling and start sharing my comics with the world as soon as possible. New cartoons will be published every Tuesday and Friday and new editions of my mini-zine, The Dancing Bear, will be posted on the first and third Thursdays of every month (paper copies are also distributed downtown if you’re lucky enough to live in Columbia).

I hope you enjoy what you see. Something tells me we’re gonna friends for a long time.
