Here it is, the latest Duckbox! Bit of a delay there. I suppose it’s a little awkward being a webcomic artist without the internet at home… and generally being too lazy to go downtown to post new comics until 10 pm. Sorry about that. But now your wait is over and the next installment of the Duckbox saga is here, complete with highly pedestrian physical comedy. Enjoy, you plebeians.
Before I started Duckbox, I drew several strips to serve as a sort of “strategic reserve” and guarantee I’d have a decent amount of material to put up once I got started. This strip marks the last of my initial Duckbox venture. It’s also the first to have a title that isn’t a pun about ducks (or boxes). What does this mean? It means now I have to start drawing strips in real time, and producing new content as I go along. I’m definitely planning to keep drawing Duckbox strips for the time being – I’m hoping to hammer out some kind of thrice-weekly posting routine, so that we can keep the story going and give me a chance to catch my breath and get strips drawn. I’m not sure how long this storyline will continue, but I’m having fun with it so right now it’s all Duckbox all the time. So quack on that!
If this feature wasn’t called duckbox, and were instead Goosebox, I would call this one “Goose(box) on the Loose(box).” But that’s impossible. Until and unless I introduce Goosebox as the sinister villain of the series – a slightly larger gray cube with an optical input lens.
The first installment of the Duckbox serial continues. Expect regular updates of your (new) favorite computerized/avian action star for the next few weeks or until I get bored.
Today we kick off a brand new, very special, somewhat titillating new feature at Young Learners Guide – DUCKBOX. The premise was originally developed as a short film idea by some friends in high school (Cassie and Jesse, I hope you interpret this as an honorific as opposed to – say – shameless plagiarism), but at some point I realized it would make a fantastic comic feature. And you are the beneficiaries. I’d say more about it, but I don’t want to spoil the buildup. So here’s Duckbox!
I like to think of this as entry one in a long series of “Don’t worry sweetie, you can try harder tomorrow” motivational posters. I drew this one day last spring when – surprise – I was feeling a bit down in the dumps. Surprisingly, I actually felt much better when I finished.
I’ve occasionally gifted prints of this to folks who like a little sunshine in their workspace, and now you can do the same! Buy this strip as a print (or greeting card) right HERE.
Hey look at this – this comic isn’t about animals! Or even plants. I’ve decided to start incorporating some new YLG content. I wrote a blog about it here. It’s that big a deal.
