Good gracious! A colored comic! I got a little adventurous and decide to paint this strip. It was a lot of fun, despite leaving the paper obviously warped. There’s a blog post about this strip, with bonus “making of” scans. Look at it here.
Animal Factz
I’m a big fan of the evil manatee, and I don’t think this is the last we’ll see of his adventures with the sinister Dangerpus. [I believe the appearance of this Dancing Bear regular constitutes the first “cameo” of an outside character in YLG.] I think he needs a name though. Something like “InhuManatee” or “Batmanatee”… though that may be grounds for the creation of a whole new character. Suggestions?
I’m currently on a bit of a vacation in Minneapolis, and i’ve been partially filling my time with trips to the coffee shop and nature documentary binges. During one o the latter it occured to me that YLG is rather lacking in portrayals of the grim life-or-death struggle that so often defines existence in the wild. To rectify this – and contribute to the depth and verisimilitude of this wildlife guide – I drew the above strip. My apologies to any sensitive viewers who might be uncomfortable with its gruesome content.
Another low-quality on-the-road upload. Very excited about the increased productivity – it’d be really nice to get back to that old “twice weekly” format at some point. But for now, I’m just happy to be doing this regularly again. Sort of.
Wow, that was a long one, huh? It’s been a bear of a semester – I guess starting graduate school, teaching composition courses, and writing constantly occasionally does lead to a shake-up in the old schedule. I’ve got about a month off now for Winter Break, and I’m hoping to get back in to the habit of publishing and posting regularly. My drawing pad and I miss each other something terrible!
